A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays
The Yuletide season present a multitude of pastimes far superior than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to refrain from arguing with relatives. I hope you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items surfaced during the break, and just in case you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Perhaps the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a positive development. However, the promotional image for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.
