Donald Trump announced on late Wednesday that he had signed the measure overwhelmingly endorsed by US legislators that instructs the federal justice agency to disclose more records regarding Jeffrey Epstein, the late pedophile.

This action comes after months of pushback from the leader and his supporters in the House and Senate that divided his political supporters and generated conflicts with some of his longtime supporters.

The president had resisted releasing the related records, labeling the situation a "false narrative" and railing against those who sought to release the documents public, despite promising their publication on the campaign trail.

Nevertheless he reversed course in recent days after it became apparent the House of Representatives would pass the measure. The president commented: "There are no secrets".

The specifics remain uncertain what the justice department will disclose in response to the measure – the measure details a range of possible documents that should be made public, but includes exemptions for specific records.

The legislation mandates the chief law enforcement officer to make unclassified Epstein-connected records accessible to the public "available for online access", covering all investigations into Jeffrey Epstein, his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, flight logs and journey documentation, persons mentioned or identified in relation to his crimes, organizations that were tied to his exploitation or financial networks, protection agreements and further court deals, internal communications about charging decisions, documentation of his detention and demise, and details about possible record elimination.

The department will have 30 days to turn over the records. The legislation includes certain exemptions, including redactions of confidential victim data or private records, any representations of youth molestation, disclosures that would endanger ongoing inquiries or prosecutions and representations of death or mistreatment.
