Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just half a year following leading derogatory taunts targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a agreement joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds was ended by mutual consent this past summer.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead insulting songs regarding Wilder during Leeds' success festivities in April. Currently, the former England international will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to pull the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Involving the Striker and the Manager
Both men had a past before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Struggles
The forward made 18 games for Leeds last season but the former Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
