The England manager Criticizes Wembley Fan Atmosphere Despite Comfortable Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel shared his sadness that the England team did not receive more encouragement from the home spectators during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his side continue their good form, with finishes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter settling the match. However, he was unhappy with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“We had one and a half sessions to prepare against a drilled team and we performed excellently,” the coach remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at the break. We missed the additional ones. It was quiet. There was no support from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you provide in 20 minutes? We prevented them get away. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s regrettable because the squad earned more support today.”
“I stand by my words. There’s nothing more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a bit more backing in phases where it becomes tough.”
“In the second half, to cheer us on, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It might have aided us to refocus, but that’s football and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Display
Away from risking a dispute among fans, the manager also created controversy by leaving out Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. Yet the move was justified by Morgan Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and scoring his first international goal.
“That’s his style,” the head coach explained. “He is a No 10 and he is vying for his position.”
Wales Manager Seeks Lessons from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who face a strong Belgian side in a crucial qualifying match on next week, improve after their disappointing performance in the opening period.
“This is why I scheduled this game,” the manager stated. “I wanted to assess our current level. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? This performance gives me drive.”
Injury Concern for Striker
Watkins was taken off at half-time after colliding with a post and is a concern when the national team face their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on Tuesday.
