Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
